Well let’s continue on with the Episode 1 season trashing/praising! MKI here.
Nobunaga the Fool
Interesting start, interesting premise. I’ve been put off so much of past Nobunaga anime, but this I feel like something with a good potential to be actually good. Science fantasy (eat that you Scifi-vs-fantasy nerds) alternate universe-Earth with
Joan of Arc Jeanne Kaguya d’Arc, hot Magellan, weird-ass Da Vinci, and yaoi-tastic Nobunaga and crew. With mechas. At least this has a somewhat more eccentric cast of characters than Bland Mecha Anime #9042 Buddy Complex.
A shame really how they went about to dress
Joan of Arc Jeanne Kaguya d’Arc. Can’t they dress a woman who led a nation to war and then burned at the stake suspected to be a witch more decently than slutwear?
And of course the
Europeans’ Star of the West’s mechas are more humanoid and sleeker, and seem faster. And they have spaceships too.
Overall though, this seems okay. Just.. okay.
Oh look, another Nobunaga anime. But really this instantly has a different vibe to it than Nobunaga the Fool.
The good thing about this anime is that it shows how awkward and lonely our MC is, not narrated by some boring bloke while s/he’s walking to school. Maybe I just don’t watch enough “bloke in school” anime, but I find it somewhat interesting that this one starts by going on a school trip. And also… interesting use of textures… I guess.
Interestingly, when I was getting screencaps, I realised that our MC (well done for paying attention to her name), while on the trip, is always shown surrounded in flowers. Don’t know what that means, but I too feel lonely (that’s because I am ( p′︵‵。) ).
And then it’s revealed there’s a secret league of superheroes based on some big names of history. Like Jack the Ripper. And Gandhi. And Newton. Right.
Oh and the colours went trippy.
I wished that this is Kill La Kill for this season, only with a different kind of absurdity. It is in a way. It’s not short on the absurdity, that’s for sure. Maybe I expected wrongly so that’s why I felt a bit down. (no it’s not because of the lack of bondage gear or boobies; there’s plenty of the latter). This is some kind of random story around a dandy man in space with his robot sidekick doing wacky stuff.
The charm is in the randomness, certainly. Uhh, don’t know what else to say though, so here, have some screencaps!
Crap, it went out on different order…
Meh, it’s all good though. Status: continue
Right, here comes some drops.
ImoCho – Another Shitty Sister LN Adaptation
To be frank, I like the initial premise: Father married another mother, now MC has a stepsister he have to live with and get to know about. But that’s as far as it goes for me. Yuji Everylead the Bland is bad enough, but actually he’s kind of decent in the sense that he’s not some twatty incestuous pervert. His friend is though, so fuck him. Yuji Everylead the Bland actually has some decent humanity in him. That’s great! But of course since this is Another Shitty LN Adaptation, Imouto-chan must suddenly fall heads over heels on her Onii-chan (literally in this anime). Now she’s possessed by a nymphomaniac brocon complex’d ghost and Imouto-chan now has a conditional chastity belt and-
“Finally, Nitro+’s busty derpy looking droopy eyed sexual fantasy mascot got her own super awesome totally justified adaptation”, said twats all around.
Oh wait, I forgot about this:
Witch Craft Works
Ehh, while I don’t despise this as much as the previous two, it’s still Yuji Everylead the Bland and Boring leading a bland and boring life, and inexplicably the most beautiful, most popular girl actually has to protect him for Reasons and yada yada yada same boring harem stuff. Of course there’s a train of transfer student the next day who are actually witches too.
Status: depends on episode 2.
